Epic 6 using Basic fantasy.
Epic 6 is a mode of play that stops progression at level 6. The idea is that to a peasant a level 6 character is a mighty hero. Even great characters from fiction would be low level D&D characters.
As I understand it, the whole concept came about with a discussion about characters from lord of the rings. The discussion centered around the idea that none of the characters did anything a that a 4th level character couldn't do. That even Gandolf could be played with a very low level D&D character with access to cantrips.
The main idea is to keep the game from becoming fantasy super heroes. In Epic 6 characters will never stand toe to toe with Giants. Characters will never have mountains of hit points. Goblins and low level monsters are always dangerous. In essence Epic 6 is a low powered game.
It's all about adjusting the scale of the game. Scaling the game with the idea that most people in the world are common folk. With every level characters are distancing themselves away from the common folk.
The common villager in a game might have 2-4 hit points. At this scale a level 6 cleric with 25 hit points and a +3 to hit is down right amazing. And a wizard with a fireball is packing a nuke.
One thing that Epic 6 does is make magical Items and artifacts more important. Some monsters may be near impossible to slay without the sword of legend or the the legendary ebon arrow.
In the same way magic items and artifacts become more valuable, the same is true for scrolls containing high level spells.
Taking down a dragon could mean questing for artifacts and hiring retainers.
There is additional variants going up to level 8 or 10. Again the point is to scale the game to the level you want your heroes to max out at.
The 0 level (cantrip) spell suppliment is a good addition to an Epic 6 game.
